a writer’s
house

Based on the writer Jane Austen, "A writer's house" is a maquette I created with recycled paper, cardboard and textiles. The model is a way to tell Jane Austen's story, based on the information I found through research. The objective of this project was to find a way of designing an interior space that could represent a story. I designed the kitchen based on 18th century drawings and description of houses, and kept the living room simple to signify the modest living condition of the author. I created a library because of Jane Austen's father's library, from which she first got her interest in literature. Lastly, I represented a bedroom with the pictures of the author and her sister, with whom she was really close and lived most of her life. The choice of the bedroom is a reference to Pride and Prejudice, the novel in which Jane Austen portrays the relationship between Elizabeth and Jane Bennet, describing her own relationship with her sister.
