InDesign, Illustrator + after effects
Hollywood is a modular stencil font I designed for my Letterform class. It is composed of basic geometric shapes, such as squares and triangles. The shapes are displayed one next to the other to create apparently continuous strokes that recall a loop or circle. The font mainly takes inspiration from two modular stencil fonts: the Karpka Rhombus Font, designed by Dimitry Rastvortsev, which is composed of tilted squared pixels, and the Loopo Stencil Font, designed by Max Little, which is a font based on the shape of a loop.
I later implemented this typeface to create an animated GIF for the New Year's Card that Parsons Paris shared on its email and social media. The main inspiration for the animation were sparks and glitching lights, which I tried to evoke by playing with the shapes that compose my typeface.
